Stop Waiting. Start Anyway.

What is your tolerance for uncertainty?
I recently read something that stopped me cold—your level of anxiety is directly related to your ability to handle uncertainty. To sit with the unknown.
That landed hard. Because if I'm honest, I've spent a good chunk of my life trying to outthink the future. Planning for every scenario. Trying to feel ready before I took the leap.
But here's what I've learned: the certainty we're waiting for rarely shows up. And while we're waiting, life keeps moving.
Worrying about the future is futile. We can never predict it. And the anxiety we carry? A lot of it isn't about real danger. It's about our discomfort with not knowing how things will turn out.
There's actually a name for this. Negativity bias. Our brains are hardwired to scan for threat, to assume the worst, to treat the unknown as danger. It kept our ancestors alive. But in everyday life, it quietly talks us out of the very things we want most.
So we wait. For more information. More certainty. More proof that it's going to work out.
I'm not suggesting we stop making plans or dreaming big. It means we do what we can today. We steer toward what we want, we do the work, and we hold the outcome loosely.
We book the vacation knowing a storm could wipe out the resort the week before we arrive. We pack our bags anyway. Because a life spent waiting for guaranteed outcomes is a life half-lived.
The most grounded, peaceful people I know aren't the ones who have everything figured out. They're the ones who've made peace with the fact that they never will—and they've stopped letting that stop them.
Uncertainty isn't the enemy. Resistance to it is.
Your brain will tell you to wait. Do it anyway.
Journal Prompts:
Where in your life are you currently waiting for certainty before taking action? What would it look like to take one small step anyway?
Think of a time when things didn't go as planned, but something good came from it anyway. What did that experience teach you about uncertainty?
Your brain is wired to assume the worst. What stories is your negativity bias telling you right now? Are they facts, or are they fears?
What would you do differently if you truly believed that uncertainty was a normal, unavoidable part of every meaningful path forward?
On a scale of 1–10, how comfortable are you sitting with the unknown? What would it take to move that number up by just one point?
What are you most afraid will happen if you move forward without all the answers? Is that fear protecting you — or holding you back?
Affirmations:
I don't need to have all the answers to move forward. I trust myself to handle what comes.
Uncertainty is not a sign that something is wrong. It is a sign that I am growing.
I release the need to control outcomes. I do the work, and I trust the process.
